Winter of 2009-2010

Overall it was a pretty mild winter. We didn't get a lot of snow and most of it was gone by March. This is good news for the deer herds. Many of the newborns and yearlings made it through the winter. It wasn't an especially good year for snowmobilers. Ice was out earlier than normal from the lakes & ponds. Ice fishing was a somewhat short season. Speaking for myself...the shorter the winter the better.

March 8th- The winter of 2009 to 2010 has really been a mild overall in Maine. Not a lot of snowfall and even warmer than normal temperatures for the most part. As you can see from the pictures the snow is melting quickly. The last several days have been in the 40's & 50's. Sap is running already and the maple syrup industry is going full blast. That should be good news for the deer herds.

This huge Christmas Tree decoration as you can see is on the barn down at what we old timers call the Poor Farm. Quite a sight when lit at night. Some of these I took before it was quite dark so you can get an idea of the design and how it's displayed. It really looks much bigger in person. My digital camera doesn't do a good job of showing the actual size. Larry Costa owns this now and is still in the process of renovating the farm. I think it is going to look real nice when he gets done. I'm sure a lot of time and money has been put into it so far.

Dec. 10th- Looks like it will be a "White Christmas" after all.

Paul Andexler shoveling his driveway after the almost foot of snow Andover got. I'm not sure I spelled Paul's last name right.

The Common Dec. 1st 2009. Will it be a white Christmas?

October 13th 2009 First snowfall for Andover- expecting 2-4 inches.

Andover Winter Pictures  2008/2009

The 2008-2009 winter was a cold one with a new record being set in Maine for the coldest temperature of -52 below zero without factoring in any wind chill. Not as much snowfall as last year but still what I would call an average winter like when I grew up in the 1950s 60s and 70s.

Brrrrrrrrrr.....Happy New Year 2009

Jan. 16th, 2009- The "Deep Freeze" has hit Andover. It was 35 below last night. Should be close to the same tonight. That's almost 70 degrees below freezing, trust me- it's cold. On top of that it's windy so add another 15-20 degrees colder for the wind chill factor.

Christmas week in Andover.

The Common after the last snow storm.

Winter has hit Andover and there will be a white Christmas. We got about 18" of snow on this last storm with more on the way.

Well Santa came to Andover for a little R & R (hunting trip). Here he's getting in some early Christmas requests with Tyzel before he has to start getting ready for the big day.

Nov. 25th, 2008

First measurable snow fall of 2008 for Andover.

Oh Oh.. they must have heard me...here comes the ducks, looking for a snack.

Don't you know you're supposed to fly south for the winter?

Oct. 22nd, 2008

First light snow fall of the year. Just an inch or 2. It didn't snow in the town of Andover but in the hills and mountains around the town. These 2 pictures were taken where I was working at Sunday River in Bethel just a short distance from Andover.
